In response to: Single Parents part 2
I stopped reading this idiotic crap when it got to Tom Brady.

Really Tom? You think the answer to create better fathers is to "shame" the ones who didn't mean to become fathers in the first place? Yeah, I think that's a super philosophy.

You know, I read your very first post and I thought it sucked. I didn't come back for awhile. Then I gave it another shot and discovered nothing improved.

Have fun shaming all the fathers who don't live up to your standards Tom. It must be lonely at the top.

We all get it. Having two parents is ideal. This is not a state secret.

You may not have said single parents (or children of single parents) are evil, but you assume they're going to be behind your kids in school. Simply because one kid has a dad and the other doesn't. That's hogwash. I don't really care what your statistics say, because statistics can be twisted any way a person wants to fit a certain argument.

I agree with Maverick, I just don't see the point of this rambling diatribe.

You don't need to be under arrest to take a breathalyzer. If the officer feels there is probable cause he can perform a number of field sobriety tests, and the suspect can refuse the breathalyzer.

But you are right, there was little evidence to work with. That's because the cops covered it up. They didn't even list the two open containers of alcohol at first. Only after the Times pressed the State Police did they go back, conduct a second "investigation" and add it in. And now, again because of pressure from the media, O'Keefe is asking for another investigation.

It seems to me the media actually did its job in this case, holding our police friends accountable when they CLEARLY gave one of their own preferential treatment.

And as for HIPAA laws, they are the most misunderstood and misinterpreted items out there. Public officials often try to inappropriately hide behind HIPAA, when in fact the public is entitled to certain medical records.

In response to: I take care of the kids, but I am no Mr. Mom!
Wow. For a stay at home dad you're pretty unenlightened.

Women are no more inclined to be a nurturing parent than men. That is blatantly false. A first time parent is a first time parent regardless of gender. Moms often have a head start because of breastfeeding but more often than not it's because dad automatically takes a back seat and so his bond with the baby is slower to develop.

And you seem to be complaining about your enhanced role with your kids. I don't get it, you treat it like a burden. And your big worry is what people from high school will think?? Wow, that's pretty shallow.

There are a lot of great dad blogs and sites for husbands/fathers out there. But I don't think I'll be coming back to this one.

Why shouldn't newspaper charge for online content? What other successful business do you know of that gives away its content for free?

No offense, but at least they're a news site. I come on here and I'm entertained from time to time, but this site does not really provide news. It links to other real news sites and occasionally has something of its own (usually an editorial, column or other opinion piece).

I'll probably pay for the Boston Globe and Cape Cod Times content online just to keep up with what's going on, but I'll have to see the cost first.

In response to: Of Constables and Fences
Troy: I love how you pooh-pooh the real issue here, which is the police department, town manager and selectmen may have blatantly violated the CORI laws by looking at sealed records. You say this will be vetted, but it should've ALREADY been taken care of. This was an issue back in NOVEMBER Troy, yet the powers that be didn't take it seriously until it started hitting the newspapers.

And that motion to adjourn by Pat Flynn? That was outrageous and disgusting and yet you gloss right over that like it was no big deal. But then you choose to harp on Brent Putnam? He's the only one who seems to be keeping things out in the open, yet you want it to remain behind closed doors.

You obviously have a bias on this case and it shows in your writing. Putnam ran on transparency and the expectation that he would challenge other selectmen. Yet you're surprised now when he's doing exactly what he said he would. But I'm not surprised, the Enterprise is known for sticking up for the town and only telling half the story. And you seem to be no different.

Oh good lord. This guy is from the Cape? I watch Whale Wars and Peter Brown came off as the most ignorant, stubborn and clueless member of the crew. And that's saying something because these volunteers seem to continually show their ineptness at sea.

I wish I hadn't read this. I don't want to share the peninsula with this clown.

In response to: Thumbs up and thumbs down in Falmouth
Troy, how about a thumbs down to your candidate, Melissa Freitag, who failed to sign her name to a letter she wrote for publication in The Enterprise. She ran an entire campaign on open government and transparency. And then hours after she's elected, we find out a forged letter was printed in the local paper.

And while we're at it, how about calling The Enterprise on the carpet for the unforgivable sin of not checking the identity of a letter writer after a letter was submitted by a third party. That's just lazy and stupid and there's no excuse for it. Yet you choose to gloss over it because it's your paper and your candidate.

Interesting...

In response to: Publishing in red ink
I'm not sure which papers you're reading, but the weeklies on the Upper Cape are not good papers. The Falmouth Bulletin doesn't even write their own news, they steal from everywhere else and publish with no byline. The Bourne Courier is better, but not by much.

The reporters at these papers never seem to leave Town Hall. That's good to an extent, but reading a half-page article about a ConCom meeting is bad journalism. The Enterprise papers are even worse offenders when it comes to this.

While I don't want to see anyone lose jobs right now I won't miss Gatehouse weeklies when they're gone.
