This is unbelievable. No offense to Mr. Cataldo, but unbelievable. Who's going to do this for my mom or dad who worked in the public sector?

What exactly did Mr. Cataldo do for the Barnstable Sheriff's department? Was he sheriff? A deputy? A dispatcher? Clerk?

What about the bennies or pension for all the OTHER working men and women (including myself as a 40 year old private sector worker) will NEVER see?

Hey Sarah Peake and Matt Patrick, I'll be sure to send you my special bill.

No Bob, in fact if you look it up, you'll see Harwich, for example, has the same number of Level 3 Sex Offenders in their town.

The Yarmouth PD just does an excellent job of disseminating information, thereby informing the public.

Other towns should follow Yarmouth's example and keep all Cape residents well-informed.

Buzz, it's not the microwave 'acallin' it's obviously the tinfoil on Cru's head. Her phone is bugged now. REALLY? The feds are on to her and ALL the info she 'allegedly" possesses. She'll free Chrissy M. And maybe she and per posse can "fix" the issues with the five girls with ROs (as she likes to say) against him.

I guess I don't need to point out how SAD and PATHETIC this all is. The right guy is in jail. And with any luck, they will put his angry little cohort in there too.

Enough with your crazy-ass rantings. Move on. Have a pizza. Drink a Coke. Justice has been done. And just for you, Cru, the Cape sucks just a little less, now that your negative a$$ is gone!

It's called clourophobia. I know, because I have it. I HATE CLOWNS. HATE THEM. I see one on TV and it brings up an entire gallery of all the worst ones. Top of the list: Stephen King's Pennywise. "We all float down here, Georgie." Good, Goddamn, I didn't sleep for a week after reading that, then it was like two weeks after see the movie.

Butterworth's stuff sounds interesting. Pulp rocks. Are his books in the library's collection? I live in Dennis and should really get a library card, I'm kind of a loser for not having one. Especially with all the stuff you can access online now.

I've been called for jury duty three times.

Fisrt time: Wasted a whole day in Worcester. Towards the end of the day we were all lined up, given numbers, then sent to lunch. When we came back from lunch we were lined up again and told we could go home.

Second time was in Barnstable. Two days server on a bowling trial. Yes bowling.

Third time was also in Barnstable. Brought it, went through the whole thing and the person next to me was the last juror chosen.

It's annoying, but it's part of our civic duty and honestly, I could use a few days off from work.

I went to one of these years ago in Millbury, the Elm Draughthouse. It was a lot of fun, nachos, pitchers of beer and a cool atmosphere--unlike going to the regular theater, you don't mind people talking because they kind of have to to order. Okay, I honestly think Frazier was involved and should go down for it as well.

But McCowen is just as guilty and is right where he should be.

Again, in MA, being part of the crime makes you just as guilty as in get-away driver gets the same time as the bank robber. And McCowen admitted to "putting the boots" to her.

That's guilty, in my book. Who's to say that had he not "put the boots" to her, she could have gotten away from those two scum bags? A forensic pathologist can determine a lot, but "putting the boots" to her definitely compromised her physical being.

Maybe Jeremy and Chris can share a cell. Wouldn't that be sweet?

Fair enough, Solon. 68?

As for the entertainment, I'm not entirely sure how frequent it is. If we eat at Oliver's it is usually a Monday or Wednesday. But I do remember the lounge lizard because I almost punched him out. When I say I don't like being touched, I mean it.

As for the Yarmouth House, I've only had dinner there once--it was good. The Old Yarmouth Inn on Route 6A is very good, the tavern is cool. They have wonderful pizza and a killer Gorgonzola steak salad. Center Stage Cafe by the museum in Dennis is consistently good as well.

One year-round place I can't warm up to is the Scargo Cafe. For me, there is always something a little off. It's got the prices of a fancy restaurant, but the food just doesn't match. Maybe somebody knows of some "can't miss" dish I should be trying...
11/05/07 @ 10:18 am
We live quite close to Oliver's so it's a fall-back when you just don't feel like cooking. We never eat in the dining room because I think there is a minimum age of about 76.

The bar is comfortable (bar seating and several tables). The bartenders are quite nice and attentive and they do bring in other servers to help out if it gets busy.

The menu is okay. You have to know what is good. Some entrees are a little odd, but you can't go wrong with a sandwich, burger and some of the chicken entrees.

But the best thing there, hands down is the soup. It is ALWAYS very good, no matter what kind. I swear they have their own soup Nazi in the back.

Monday-Thursday is pretty quiet (but not dead, there are always folks in there), but beware, Friday and Saturday nights they often have cheezy lounge singers in there "entertaining". Kind of like Captain and Tenille without Tenille.

Cru, you are downright daft. I'm not talking about footprints. I'm talking about what McCowen said. You can "put the boots" to someone in whatever footwear you like.

Not that I want to get into it, but what with the steady stream of men Christa "allegedly" had, I'm sure one of them wore boots.

And as for Oz it's an HBO series about prison, you know, where your little pal is now...
10/18/07 @ 10:44 am
Cru, not black boots. Just boots. "Put the boots to" is a term gansta toughies like to use. Means kicked the sh*t out of. Gez, watch some Oz or something.

Wow, I think whatasurprise, might be pretty right on. Although, personally, I don't see the need to bring up the black/white thing because I honestly think that it is inconsequential. But I do think it goes a little deeper with the drugs. Those Truro folks love to gossip...

And sorry, but the "put the boots to her" has always stuck with me. The cops didn't make McCowen say that. He said that is what he did. Even if he claims little Jeremy did the crime, he most certainly gets the assist on this one.

I had the misfortune of having to drive from Dennis to Orleans and back along 6A on Friday afternoon and the people were INSANE. Lots of traffic and angry, pissy people driving waaay to fast and trying to make ridiculous left-hand turns.

I hopped on 6 between 12 and the rotary and some jackass with New Jersey plates flashed his lights at me for going the speed limit. Apparently he was unaware of the cop that usually tucks himself in around that bend.

I think I may have inadvertently crossed myself when I finally pulled back into the parking space and killed the ignition.

If this is any indication of the summer driving patterns (not to mention all the accidents reported over at CWN), I'm working from home.

On Route 6A, the single cyclists with their silly biker outfits and tubed in water are bad enough, but even worse are the benefit rides where half the people are out of shape and don't know what they are doing. I'm always waiting for one of them to catch some sand and eat some pavement in front of an oncoming car.

6A is to narrow and dangerous for this nonsense. I'm amazed at how far out cars will swerve into oncoming traffic. Not too bright.

And as for biking naked? Or doing pretty much any activity other than showering or shagging naked, ick.

Not a big help? Leaving her at the gate in Orlando to fetch a few Egg McMuffins. Came back, she was white as a ghost. She had been sitting next to an individual worthy of racial profiling. He was bent over an open book, chanting. Freaked her out enough that she asked what he was "studying". Math he said. Said he was on break from college (extra freak out--wasn't the right time of year). Boy, there was a fun flight.

Bullying can be a lot more subtle than the big jerky kid beating lunch money out of a computer geek. Middle schools are rife with bullies in the form of cliques. It's a pack mentality. I was speaking with an 8th grader this weekend about this very thing. She's not a bully would never be, could never be in the traditional sense. Some of the celebrities entering rehab have valid issues that need to be addressed. They're lucky they have the $$ to go.

But the likes of Ted Haggard, Mel Gibson, Michael Richards and Isaiah Washington? It's just their way of ducking out for a bit. They go to a heavily guarded "rehab facility" until their stupid behavior is no longer front page news. I have a hard time believing Haggard is now straight, Mel's no longer an anti-semite, Kramer is now color blind and Isaiah is newly "straight but not narrow."

Enough with this racism nonsense. I didn't see color through this whole trial, just evidence and facts. I saw juror #9 interviewed on the news last night. He was the African American juror and he said it had nothing to do with race. It had to do with evidence and the decision to find McCowen guilty or not guilty of the crimes he was charged with.

I'm tired of ultra liberals who see problems where there may actually not be one.

Were some of the details in this trial a bit "murky"? Yes, but in the end, I think justice was done and the jurors in the Worthington murder/rape trial should be commended.

I caught Mulvey and Frazier both testifying, and if I was sitting on that jury, the testimony/alibi of neither would be good enough for me. Just one dirt bag defending another. Just the fact that Frazier's alibi rests on Mulvey who first lied to the police then decided to come clean. It's tough to keep track of with all the drug deals, snitching and general seedy behavior. I nominate Frazier as the new Homeschooling Poster Boy.

Two things, I thought Mulvey said his father's girlfriend was definitely not there that night. Maybe I didn't hear him correctly.

And as for Frazier, he said they went back to Mulvey's house and were going to call up some "females". First off, that doesn't sound TOO rehearsed and second, did they actually call up the "females"? Did any of the "females" come over that night, or do we pretty much have two druggy dudes having a nice little sleepover?

I guess the biggest question for me (and let me know if it has already been answered) is how did McCowen get to her house and how did he get home after? Was Frazier there or wasn't he? Did he drop McCowen off and pick him up? Did McCowen have his own car? Did one of his other sleazy friends bring him over there? If you know where Christa's house is, you know it isn't exactly easy to get to. The Flex wasn't in business then and it wouldn't even help now. So, the question again, how did McCowen get around that night?

Help them? The Times is not a charity (although they could certainly use all the help they can get). You should be spending advertising dollars where it's most effective, not because you feel bullied to do so.

I certainly hope they are not basing their endorsements on who drops the most $$.

Media organizations that lend their endorsement/support based on who is paying them to advertise is just down right pathetic.

Booooring. I think the four or five of you who go back and forth at each other (saying the same thing over and over) should just get a chat room or instant message each other. Your handles could be capewindlover1, capewindlover2, capewindhater1, capewindhater2, and so on. And I completely understand if you wanted to keep Peckham out. Unless of course, the windies think he's actually helping the cause.

...continued from the Healey campaign statement...

We also agree with Deval Patrick that there are personal and family issues that are not germane to the campaign and do not contribute anything of value to the debate. The focus of this campaign must remain on the key issues facing Massachusetts and how the individual candidates would approach these challenges as governor.

Our campaign will continue to point out Deval Patrick’s record of supporting higher taxes, wasteful spending, seeking ‘workarounds’ for MCAS, providing driver’s licenses and in-state tuition to illegal immigrants, siding with Beacon Hill insiders and the special interests over the voters and advocating for the release convicted rapist Benjamin LaGuer from jail while ignoring the family of the victim.

In response to: Patrick Hits Back
Huh, so Healey's responsible for what newspapers publish now. Well, this from Healey's camp:

This is a campaign about differences. On Election Day, voters will have a choice about who they can trust to best serve the people of Massachusetts as their next governor. Kerry Healey has articulated a clear vision for the future. She has specific plans to reduce taxes, maintain fiscal discipline on Beacon Hill, improve standards in public education, and keep our communities safe by taking a hard line on crime.

We agree with Deval Patrick’s comments that as candidates we deserve, and expect, to be scrutinized. However, that scrutiny does not permit Deval Patrick to impugn the character of Lieutenant Governor Healey by launching baseless personal attacks and accusations that are not supported by any facts or evidence.

Deval Patrick has a right to voice his dissatisfaction with the media if he believes he is being treated unfairly. He does not have the right to blame the lieutenant governor for that treatment.

...continue...

Good point, Opinionator. Cape Cod radio is lame, lame, lame. I've got satellite radio now because I couldn't stand the prepackaged "unCape Cod" feel of the mainstream "Cape" stations. You're right, whether it's an election or a bad storm (which can sometimes feel like the same thing) you're left feeling a bit lost.

Why does this site have to be so gratutious sometimes? Gay vs. Gay? It's offensive. Yes, I get it, both candidates are homosexuals. So what? Is that how they will vote? Do they need to contact their inner gayness to vote on every issue? C'mon. Candidates, actually, people, are made up of a lot of different parts. People can be gay, straight, black, white, Catholic, Jewish, Atheist, left handed or right handed. They may sing off key or not be able to tell time or like decaf over regular.

Why start things out this way? You label some candidates but not others (especially the ones you fancy). Why couldn't it just read "Peake vs. Maloy: rumble in the 4th" as a headline? If the two are running, I hope they have a hell of a lot more to say than I'm gay, I'm gay, I'm gay. Let's drop the drama and focus on the issues please.

I'm not in Mr. Maloy's district and if I were, I would not be voting for him. However, it seems ridiculous to me that Mr. Buckley called the cops on him. He should have either called Mr. Maloy directly or perhaps even contacted the person who replaced the Buckley sign with the Maloy sign. Now if Mr. Buckley or one of his camp had seen or had some evidence of Mr. Maloy stealing his signs, that would be a different story. But that certainly doesn't seem to be the case here.

Opinionator, before you completely dismiss Teri Hatcher, you should look a little into her story and you'll find that the uncle who sexually abused her twenty years ago was also linked to the suicide of a 14 year old girl in 2002. Nice post, Chuck. I too love wandering through graveyards. Some of my favorites are in Chatham at the corner of Old Queen Anne and George Ryder and the one in Barnstable on 6A across from the Trayser Museum. Take a look in your local bookstore, there are some great guides out there. Also http://www.capecodgravestones.com/ is a great site, lots of listings and epitaphs. Lots of historical societies do costume-guide tours, but I don't think I could keep a straight face long enough to attend one.

My favorite epitaph of all times is in the Barnstable graveyard. Abigail Davis' headstone reads "Though worms & putrefaction shall consume this mortal body in ye silent tomb I shall revive & from ye grave arise & see my god with these corporeal eyes."

Cheery, no?
