An important clarification - since I was with Stephen when we both were instructed many years ago in St. John how to apply the gin - it is with a cloth and not via hands. You keep the gin in the freezer and take it out when the bugs are visiting. Douse a cloth with the cold gin and then apply it to skin. It also serves quite well to tame the itch if one has the misfortune to get a bite. Applying by hands could be interesting but that is for another blog.

Peter - Some of your statements are plain wrong. First, it's Massachusetts Technology Collaborative. Second, the 'conference' was a two day working meeting of stakeholders. Third, it was in February 2005 not last year. Fourth, Jim Gordon was not there. Fifth, Susan Nickerson was invited to participate but she decided to send an intern from a DC law firm who was asked to leave as he had not been invited. And the document that came from the work done at that meeting is called "A Framework for Offshore Wind Development in the United States". You can find a link to it on the MTC web site. This is all true because I was there and was part of the organizing group. And you know this is true because I spoke to you from DC and answered the same complaints. This was not about Cape Wind but a larger discussion about offshore wind.

In response to: Cape Wind and Tabloid Journalism
Peter - I hesitate to get into this as my time is limited but I did have to comment on what you said about the Cape Wind book. I have been involved in offshore wind and specifically the Cape Wind project since 2001 when I first worked with MTC designing the Cape and Islands Offshore Wind Stakeholder Process. You can find all info on this process at the MTC web site. I then moved on to Clean Power Now as the Executive Director a mere 10 months ago. From my vantage point, as a neutral party for close to five years and then an active advocate for the past 10 months I strongly believe that the Cape Wind book is accurate and truthful. The opposition and their funders have deliberately on numerous occasions mis-informed and let's not bring up the map or John Donelan. The only thing the wind farm opponents have to fear is a fully engaged public discussion around the merits and the impacts. No back door political dealings to circumvent a public airing.
No millions to pay lobbyists, PR consultants & attorneys.

You once again have done your homework and written a well researched and documented piece. Thank goodness for your memory, wit and the print media. It's an unbeatable combination.
