A half century of Cape Cod

February 15, 1965

The Cape's population has almost tripled since then

On that long ago date, exactly a half century ago today, my family and I moved to Cape Cod.

The population then was under 85,000 and has grown to 215,000 today.

I had taken the job of Advertising Manager of The Cape Codder 6,000 circulation weekly newspaper. When I moved on to MPG Communications in 1977 it had over 16,000 paid subscribers.

After a decade at MPG my wife Pat and I started Best Read Guides here on Cape Cod.

In 1989 we launched the BRG Franchise Co. and sold it to Morris Communications in Augusta Georgia a decade later after starting forty editions from Maine to Florida and California.

Morris gradually converted them into new editions of Where which they subsequently bought.

In 1997 I started a series of online travel and news sites including this one, which are now run by my son Jay and his wife Julie.
