Family Fridays at Long Pasture Wildlife Sanctuary. July 3 through September 3, 10am-11:30am.

Adult members $6, adult non-members $8; children members $4, children non-members $6

Butterflies of Cape Cod (7/3): In early July, blooming milkweed is a magnet for butterflies in old Cape Cod pastures. Tor Hansen, co-author of Butterflies Across Cape Cod, will lead us on a magnificent journey into butterfly habitat to reveal the visual clues of cryptic col-oration, wing patterns, eyespots and fringe. Registration not required.

Hiking with Goats (7/10): Enjoy the trails of Long Pasture with a natural hiker....a goat friend. Each family will guide a goat for a beau-tiful and entertaining walk through the trails of Long Pasture. Human walkers will learn a bit of natural history along the way, as their goats take in the smells, sights, and sounds. PLEASE PREREGISTER FOR THIS DAY.

Confessions of a Beekeeper (7/17): Discover the secret life of bees and their human keepers as we explore the complex life of a bee colony, the history and art of bee-keeping, specialized equipment and the steps it takes to produce a jar of honey.

Tantalizing Turtles (7/24): Discover these ancient, secretive reptiles and consider how their shells, claws and other anatomical features help them survive in different habitats. We will do some behavior testing of our local turtles and learn how scientists study these intriguing creatures.

Who’s Been Here? (7/31): What's that scat? Whose footprint is that? Where does that hole go? Join naturalist Todd Kelley and learn to read the clues left behind by animals to find out who has been prowling around Long Pasture and perhaps your own neighborhood.

Tantalizing Turtles (8/7): Discover these ancient, secretive reptiles and consider how their shells, claws and other anatomical features help them survive in different habitats. We will do some behavior testing of our local turtles and learn how scientists study these fascinating creatures.

Marine Mammals (8/14) Discover that there is much more to the lives of these magnificent mammals, including Cape Cod’s own seals, dolphins and whales, than we see at the surface! Dig It (8/21): Learn how to make your own biodegradable starter pots from recycled materials. Join us as we plant some late season flowers in pots that can be directly planted in the ground when you are ready to transplant!

Monarchs of Migration (8/28): Let the Monarch butterfly migration begin! Tor Hansen will inspire you with his love of Lepidoptera as he presents monarch ecology, traces life cycle and complete metamor-phosis, and reveals how and where monarchs migrate.

Horseshoe Crab Encounters (9/3): Join us as we seek out horseshoe crabs and examine their amazing anatomy, life cycle, and adapta-tions and discover the challenges facing these ancient creatures.
