The Friends of the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History presents "Development and Potential Impacts of the New Inlet in Nauset Beach"
Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at 1:30pm Friends of CCMNH monthly meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 9th at 1:00pm, followed by the program, Development and Potential Impacts of the New Inlet in Nauset Beach with Ted Keon & Dr. Graham Giese. Friends of CCMNH members/free, guests/$3 Ted Keon will discuss factors leading up to the formation of the new inlet in April 2007, its continued development since that time and some of the physical changes as well as current and future management implications caused by the inlet. Dr. Graham Giese will follow with an overview of the past history of the Nauset Beach cycle of beach growth and inlet formation and based on that present a possible scenario of inlet development 50 years into the future. Ted Keon is the Director of the Coastal Resources Department with the Town of Chatham. Mr. Keon is the primary liaison for Chatham's marine and shoreline related activities. He oversees the planning and implementation of projects affecting Chatham's waterways, coastal shorelines and water dependent infrastructure and also provides oversight of Chatham's town landings and water access. Prior to his position with Chatham, Mr. Keon was the Chief of the Coastal Planning Section of the Philadelphia District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Graham S. Giese is co-founder and a Senior Scientist at the Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies, where he currently serves as Director of the Land and Sea Interaction Program. Dr. Giese is also an Oceanographer Emeritus at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, and has over 50 years experience in the fields of coastal geology and coastal oceanography. |
