Harwich Police investigate cemetery jewelry theft

HARWICH - The Harwich Police Department is currently investigating a breaking and entering into a mausoleum at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery on South Street.

On Sunday, October 3, 2010, a citizen noticed that the door to a family mausoleum was open.  When police arrived, they found signs of forced entry.  Inside, unknown suspects gained entry into one of the vaults and removed a coffin dating back to 1913.

Based on evidence found at the mausoleum, it appears that theft of items, including jewelry, was a possible motive.  Various brass objects were also stolen from the mausoleum.

This is an on-going investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact Sgt. Kevin Considine at 508 430-7541 X 5521.

Barnstable Police arrest 5 during drug search warrant execution in Hyannis

Cash and drugs with a street value of over $5000 confiscated

HYANNIS - Over the last two months, the Barnstable Police Department's Narcotics Unit received numerous neighborhood complaints about 70 Winter Street, Apartment F, in Hyannis.  Specifically, neighbors suspected drug trafficking and reported excessive traffic in and out of the apartment on a daily basis as well as numerous disturbances and arguments at the apartment.

Detective Tom Chevalier began investigating the complaints and quickly determined the complaints to be accurate.  During the subsequent investigation, detectives observed as many as ten people an hour entering and exiting the apartment.  Most of these people were well known to the narcotics unit.  Detectives were also able to conduct several undercover purchases of narcotics from the apartment.

As a result of the investigation, Barnstable Narcotics detectives executed a drug related search warrant at the apartment Thursday night, October 7, 2010, at approximately 8 p.m.

Barnstable detectives and members of the Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Council (CCRLEC) SWAT Team served the warrant.  Upon entering the apartment, officers found 10 suspects inside.  A subsequent search resulted in the recovery of quantities of Cocaine (both crack and powder), Ecstasy, Suboxone, Marijuana, and over $2000 in cash.  The street value of the drugs seized is approximately $5000.
