YARMOUTH PORT - A Yarmouth Port man was arrested Wednesday night and today faces attempted murder charges. According to a Yarmouth police release, Officer Nicholas Ambrosini was dispatched to a home on Route 6A in Yarmouth Port around 7:25 p.m. to conduct a wellness check.  A woman fearing for her daughter's safety called Yarmouth police and asked that they check on her.

When Officer Ambrosini arrived, he found the young woman who told him she had been repeatedly beaten, attacked and strangled by her fiancee throughout the day and only recently was able to escape the house with their one-year-old child, police said.

Officer Ambrosini was joined by a team of fellow officers including a K9 unit and a search for the man began.  Officers soon determined the suspect, identified as 29-year-old Ryan C. Martin of 929 Route 6A, was hiding in the home's attic. Martin refused to leave the attic and attempted to block the entrance to the attic with boxes. Sergeant John Fallon spoke with Martin and was able to convince him to leave the attic, police said.

Martin was taken into custody and transported to the Yarmouth Police Station where he was charged with felony assault and battery and felony attempted murder.  He was scheduled for arraignment in Barnstable District Court today.

According to Deputy Chief Steven Xiarhos, a 51A Care and Protection report was filed with the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families.
