Occupy Cape Cod to participate in several local events this weekend

A stand-out, an encampment and lots of information

The organizers of Occupy Cape Cod have announce several events over this coming weekend (January 27-29).  Occupy Cape Cod members will be sponsoring the following gatherings across the Cape:

Friday, January 27, 2012

• Occupy Cape Cod members, joined by a group of Boston Occupiers, will establish a tent encampment on the grounds of the Calvary Baptist Church, 25 Lincoln Road (at West Main Street) in Hyannis.

Saturday, January 28, 2012

• Protest/Stand-Out from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in front of Bank of America on Barnstable Road in Hyannis. Members of several Occupy groups including Eastham, Falmouth, Orleans, Wellfleet, Provincetown and Boston will join the members of Occupy Hyannis for the event. "Octopi Cape Cod" street theater featuring a theatrical octopus will be performed by Cape Cod Move to Amend and Occupy Cape Cod in the Bank of America parking lot during the stand-out.

• A soup lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
• From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Grass Ross, a Worcester activist and former candidate for governor will speak. Ms. Ross is the author of "Main St. $marts" and is considered by many to be the expert on foreclosure in Massachusetts.
• Occupy Falmouth members Peter Waasdorp and Paul Rifkin will discuss their group's development, goals and mission statement from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Calvary Baptist Church.
• David Agnew and Sara Thacher will discuss the dangers of Pilgrim Nuclear Power Plant from 4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
• The camp out will take place Saturday evening.

Anyone interested in participating is welcome to come and learn about Occupy Cape Cod and their work for social and economic justice.
