New free historical film series launched in Cotuit

Free films to be shown each month through April

The Cotuit Center for the Arts and the Historical Society of Santuit and Cotuit have partnered to offer a new monthly historic film series beginning next week.  On the second Monday of each month, a new film or documentary will be shown through April.

All films begin at 7 p.m. at the Cotuit Center for the Arts at 4404 Route 28 in Cotuit and admission is free.

  • January 9: We Still Live Here

    This documentary by filmmaker Anne Makepeace tells the amazing story of the return of the Wampanoag language, the first time a language with no Native speakers has been revived in this country. Spurred on by linguist Jessie Little Doe, the Wampanoag are bringing their language and their culture back.
  • February 13: The Patriot

    This 2000 historical war film starring Mel Gibson, Chris Cooper and Heath Ledger depicts the story of an American swept into the American Revolutionary War when his family is threatened.
  • March 12:  The New World

    This historical adventure, starring Colin Farrell and Q'orianka Kilcher, depicts the founding of the Jamestown, Virginia settlement and is inspired by the historical figures Captain John Smith and Pocahontas.
  • April 9:  The Crossing

    This 2000 A & E film is based on the novel of the same name by Howard Fast.  The Peabody Award and stars Jeff Daniels as George Washington.
