Dr. John Cox nominated to take the helm of 4Cs after Schatzberg's retirement
Wednesday night, after two hours of deliberations, Cape Cod Community College Trustees nominated Dr. John Cox to succeed Dr. Kathleen Schatzberg as president in 2012, according to a release from the college. The final voting came after two public forums held at the college, a review of written public comments and reports from the teams tasked with visiting the campuses of the finalists.

Once Commissioner Freeland formerly accepts the recommendation, contract negotiations and the finalization of his appointment will begin. Dr. Cox will replace President Schatzberg who is retiring after fourteen years as head of the college. His appointment would be effective July 1, 2012.
Dr. Cox is currently the Vice President of Finance, Operations and Government Relations at Hartford Community College in Maryland.
The trustees narrowed their list of candidates to seven at the end of October, by the second week in November, the list had been narrowed to three. Dr. Cox beat out the other two finalists, Dr. Peter Grant Jordan and Dr. Peter Katopes--both of whom hold positions at La Guardia Community College in New York. Prior to making their choice, the trustees held public forums and sent delegations to each of the candidate's current schools.
According to Michael Gross, Director of College Communications, Dr. Cox expressed his thanks to the board in a telephone conversation for their confidence and his "deep enthusiasm for the college, its mission and the region".
