Community Forum to discuss Volunteer Network on Cape Cod planned for April 28
Emily Habor of MA Service Alliance will speak on the new Serve America Act
YARMOUTHPORT – “Developing a Volunteer Network for Cape Cod,” a community forum, will be held 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, at the Cape Cod & Islands Association of Realtors Conference Center in West Yarmouth. The keynote speaker will be Emily Haber, CEO of the Massachusetts Service Alliance, a private, nonprofit organization that serves as the state commission on community service and volunteerism.
Haber will speak on the new Serve America Act, which expands federal support for service programs, including volunteerism, and what it will mean for Cape Cod, the Commonwealth, and the country. A discussion and panel will be presented on a new plan to develop a volunteer network on Cape Cod.
The proposed volunteer network will promote volunteerism and enable local residents and others to get involved, said Lisa McNeill, Vice President of the Cape Cod Foundation. “We hope nonprofit organizations, town representatives, and community members will attend and give us feedback, so that we ensure that we’re best meeting the needs of the community,” she said.
The forum is presented by the Cape Cod Foundation and sponsored by Bank of America. Co-hosts are Volunteer Leadership Network (VolNET) of Cape Cod, Single Volunteers of Cape Cod, Elder Services of Cape Cod and the Islands, and Barnstable County AmeriCorps Cape Cod.
The Cape Cod & Islands Association of Realtors Conference Center is located at 22 Mid-Tech Drive in West Yarmouth. A light breakfast will be served. The forum is free. Attendees are asked to RSVP to the Cape Cod Foundation, at info@capecodfoundation.org or (508) 790-3040.
