Dennis business owner to receive Cape Cod SCORE Award on June 2nd

Debbie Hagan to be honored at the 16th annual Cape Cod SCORE Awards Breakfast

Debbie Hagan owner of Deborah Ann’s Rainbow, has been selected by the Dennis Chamber of Commerce to receive a Build a Better Mousetrap Award from Cape Cod SCORE at its sixteenth annual awards breakfast to be held Tuesday, June 2nd at the Old Yarmouth Inn in Yarmouth Port.

Debbie Hagen (right, in front of the shop) is the owner of a holistic gift shop, Deborah Ann's Rainbow, in Dennisport Village at 2 Telegraph Road, at Route 28, next to Dennisport Natural Market.

She opened the shop in 2002 and this spring begins her eighth season. She is sole proprietor and this is her first retail business. Prior retail experience was at the Village Toy Store in Brewster (three years), and her retail training was through SCORE's Small Business Assistance Program at Cape Cod Community College. A resident of Cape Cod since early childhood, Hagen previously worked as a community and school nurse/teacher at Cape Cod Child Development Head Start, Riverview School, and Eastham Elementary School.

The shop represents a career change and a chance to realize a dream of self-employment.  Although the challenges have been many, the business experience has been extremely gratifying and has created much personal growth. Her shop welcomes you with “gifts and cards to brighten your day.”

Top honors at the SCORE awards breakfast go to the Small Business Owner of the Year who is selected from among the counseling organization’s small business clients. Various chambers of commerce select those who receive SCORE’s Build a Better Mousetrap Awards which this year will go to fifteen small businesses that have survived the critical first five years of operation and appear to be headed for long-term success.
