Great American Bake Sale: Cape Cod Hospital joins effort to end childhood hunger
Cape Cod Hospital to take part in a national effort to end childhood hunger
Cape Cod Hospital will be participating in Share Our Strength's Great American Bake Sale on Thursday, June 25, 2009. This is part of a national effort that encourages Americans to host bake sales to help end childhood hunger. Since 2003, more than 1.3 million people have participated in Great American Bake Sale, raising nearly $5 million.
"I’m not leaving until everything is gone," Melissa promises.
Melissa Russell, RN, a maternity nurse at Cape Cod Hospital is heading up the effort in the Cape Cod Hospital lobby from 7:00 am until everything is sold out. "I’m not leaving until everything is gone," Melissa promises.
She has enlisted the baking skills of many members of the hospital staff and will have many types of cookies cakes and breads, homemade chocolates and pies such as strawberry rhubarb and pina colada pie, as well as lemon squares and gingerbread white chocolate bars. Also on hand will be the Cape Cod Hospital Bake Off winner from last year, baking her winning entries for the sale.
Funds from the bake sale will stay here on Cape Cod, supporting after-school and summer feeding programs in our community — food programs that hundreds of kids depend on. It's a fun solution with a large impact.
