Women's charity tennis tournament in Cotuit September 19 & 20
Tournament to support women recovering from substance abuse
Recovery without Walls (RWW), a Cape-wide, non-profit organization based in Falmouth, will hold its 4th Annual Women’s Charity Tennis Tournament on, Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20 at King’s Grant Racquet Club, 12 Old King's Road at Main Street in Cotuit.
The tournament is free to the public and will begin at 9AM on Saturday.
There will be complimentary food and beverages, including a luncheon barbeque and buffet served throughout the day until play ends. Spectators are invited to participate in a raffle and silent auction that includes restaurant gift certificates, artwork by local artists Jan Collins-Selman and Amy Woodruff, a private box for eight at the 2010 Tennis Hall of Fame, Boston Hotel packages, and much more.
"The Tournament has grown from a local event to an all New England championship event. Many of the players participate in national tournaments. This charity event is a wonderful opportunity to watch great women’s tennis, enjoy lunch and help a great cause," stated John Maloy, Tournament Director at Kings Grant.
"RWW’s objective is to help women succeed in the first three-five years following substance abuse treatment so that they can achieve a lasting recovery, return to employment, build a network of support, and make them contributors to the community," stated Bill Dougherty, RWW Founder and Executive Director. Amateur women tennis players from across the Cape and Eastern Massachusetts team together to help raise $5,000 – $10,000 to support RWW’s services, such as helping with rent, transportation, and access to medical and social services.
In addition, each doubles team is sponsored by a professional woman - doctors, dentists, small business owners- from across the Cape and New England. The tournament really celebrates women helping women, added Dougherty.
For the first time, the tournament will be divided into three divisions – an open division for those ranked 4.5-5.0, an A division for those ranked 3.5-4.0, and an over age 50 division. "The Tournament has grown from a local event to an all New England championship event. Many of the players participate in national tournaments. This charity event is a wonderful opportunity to watch great women’s tennis, enjoy lunch and help a great cause," stated John Maloy, Tournament Director at Kings Grant.
Hanlon Shoes, Main Street, Hyannis is the overall sponsor for the event. There are still individual and business sponsorships available. In the event of rain, the tournament will be held the following weekend, September 26 and 27.
