Special Presentation: "The Swine Flu and You" in Yarmouth Port Friday, October 16th
Special presentation by Georgia Dash, nationally prominent infection control expert
In light of the predicted spread of H1N1 (Swine) Influenza into epidemic proportions, the Yarmouth Port Library will sponsor an October 16th program about all aspects of the flu, as well as methods of preventing infection and protecting family members. The program will be given by Georgia P. Dash, BSN, MS, CIC, a nationally prominent infection control expert who is corporate director of infection control and prevention for the Cape Cod Healthcare system.
Dash will discuss the differences between the various types of influenza before concentrating on H1N1. She will then give the latest information on vaccine types, their safety and their availability, and explain who should, and who should not, be vaccinated. Lastly, Dash will describe H1N1 community resources and treatment before answering questions from the audience.
An infection control practitioner (ICP) and epidemiologist for more than three decades, Georgia Dash was a founding member of the Washington, DC-based APIC which, with 10,000 members, is the world’s largest association of ICPs. She served on APIC’s board of directors for seven years before becoming its president in 2002. Earlier, she chaired the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, which certifies ICPs in many different countries for practice.
The program will be presented on Friday, October 16th at 7 p.m. in the community room of the Yarmouth Port Fire Station on Route 6A. Seated is limited, so early arrival is advisable.
