Chatham: St. Christopher?s expanded Consignment & Gift Shop will stay open year-round
For the first time ever, the Gift & Consignment Shop of St. Christopher’s Church in Chatham will extend its hours to stay open year-round.
The shop is currently open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Normally, it closes for the winter in mid-December and remains closed until April. This year, however, the shop will close just for the holiday break on December 19 and will reopen on Thursday, January 10, 2010.
Store hours will be Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. from Jan. 21 through March 27. Consignments will be accepted on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The store will extend its hours on April 5, back to Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Consignment days will be Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon.
The Consignment & Gift Shop is now in its sixth month in its new, expanded location, next door to St. Christopher’s Church on Main Street, behind the Ben Franklin store, next to the Pampered Palate.
Now, the shop’s pricing and bookkeeping systems have gone high-tech, since going “live” with a new computer system with software especially designed for the unique pricing and inventory control needs of a shop with consigned and donated inventory. A computer in the front of the shop is used largely for checking out purchases and a computer in the back office is used to manage inventory, tag consignments and track payments to consignors.
In addition, the new tagging system provides for discounts after certain marked dates: the longer an item is on the floor, the deeper the discount.
