You may recall the much heralded story in the local press two months ago when the Scargo Cafe on Route 6-A in Dennis announced a "Sand Poll" by their customers on the Cape Wind project proposed for Nantucket Sound.
For over six weeks, every time a customer received their check for lunch or dinner, each guest was given two small vials of Cape Cod beach sand, one marked "pro" and the other marked "con".
7,080 votes, over 80 pounds of sand was "voted"
The customers were invited to deposit their choice in one of two large glass containers in the restaurant's vestibule. After proceding to the lobby and having the opportunity to study the information there, one jar for those in favor of the wind farm and the other for those opposed.
The voting started on April 15, 2005 and the voting ended on May 26, 2005.
In those six plus weeks 7,080 votes were cast, representing 81 pounds of genuine Cape Cod sand.
Pro won with 3,620 votes (41.5 pounds of sand) and Con lost with 3,460 votes (39.5 pounds of sand)
