CPN Annual Meeting to honor LWV
Clean Power Now holding Third Annual Meeting
Jim Gordon of Cape Wind to be Keynote Speaker
C lean Power Now will hold its annual meeting at the Cummaquid Golf Club from 6:30 to 8:30 PM on Saturday, June 18. Admission is free and the meeting is open to Clean Power Now members, media, and invited guests. Anyone wishing to attend can join CPN at the door. Refreshments and snacks will be served.
Cape Wind President Jim Gordon will be the keynote speaker. Mr. Gordon was written about very favorably this past week in the Wall Street Journal, see the story here.
There is no membership fee. More details and directions are available on the group's website here. If you want to dine out before or after the meeting, there is a huge list of restaurants in the area here.
This local, grass roots organization has 4,700 members with two off cape chapters. Membership is free to the non-profit volunteer organization whose puropose is to inform citizens and empower them to support viable renewable energy projects and policies, and to secure their local and regional benefits.
League of Women Voters to be Honored
The Cape Cod Chapter of the League of Women Voters will be presented with an award for their diligent and thorough effort researching the benefits and impacts of the proposed wind farm on Nantucket Sound.
The League spent more than two years investigating the Cape Wind proposal. Six members of the League went to Denmark to visit Horns Rev, the world's largest wind farm at the time, to personally assess the visual presence of off-shore wind.
In February, the League published their position statement supporting the Cape Wind proposal. The League said that projects such as Cape Wind are critical in "meeting the energy needs of our area; helping to provide clean air; providing health benefits for our citizens and addressing the issue of climate change."
Jim Gordon to Address CPN Members
Jim Gordon, President of Cape Wind Associates, will deliver the keynote address. "Since our members support the Cape Wind project, we felt they would like to hear from Mr. Gordon," said Clean Power Now Executive Director Matt Palmer. Mr. Gordon will address the group regarding the Nantucket Sound wind farm proposal, and be available to take questions.
"Jim looks forward to thanking advocates of clean energy projects on the Cape and Islands for their efforts," said Cape Wind spokesman Mark Rodgers.
See the Harwich Turbine before dinner
Seredipitously the wind turbine being built by students at Cape Cod Tech in Harwich will have its ribbon-cutting and dedication a few hours before the CPN Annual Meeting. See the related story here.
