Cape renewable energy group has 5,000 members
Clean Power Now hit that milestone last week
Hyannis, MA August 1, 2005
During the past week, Clean Power Now, a Cape- based grassroots group supporting renewable energy, has signed up its 5,000th member.

This is the postcard CPN created and is using to lure vacationers to Cape Cod when it's America's first offshore wind farm locale.
The 5,000-member mark was passed during the 2- year-old organization’s staffing of a booth at the Barnstable County Fair in Falmouth. Executive Director Matt Palmer said, “It’s quite remarkable that a grass-roots volunteer group could have reached this milestone so quickly. Supporting the Nantucket Sound Wind Farm has been a principal focus of our energies in that time, which makes it all the more rewarding that most of our members are Cape-based.”
Clean Power Now promises new members that it will not publicize their names or share them with other organizations. However, Palmer did reveal that while most members were from the Cape, Islands, and South Coast towns, the next largest group comprised other Massachusetts locations, and the third largest was from elsewhere in New England. The organization’s less than two dozen foreign members come from as far afield as Russia, Singapore, Europe and Canada.
“It shows the extent to which people in this area understand the value of renewable energy and are committed to its development” said Palmer.
