Romney Wind Farm Plan Attacked
New Grassroots Group Wants to Stop Romney's Wind Farm
The official presentation from the Alliance to Protect Boston Harbor shows the obvious danger to the city's skyline if the Governor's silly plan is developed.
BOSTON - January 22, 2005

A local group calling itself the Alliance to Protect Boston Harbor harshly condemned Gov. Mitt Romney's proposal to build wind turbines on islands in the harbor as an alternative to the Cape Wind proposal.
"Boston Harbor is an area of incalculable historic, cultural and economic importance," said Ernesto Incorrigan, chief flack for the Alliance. "Building these eyesores there would be like spraying graffiti on Mount Rushmore."
"Building these eyesores there would be like spraying graffiti on Mount Rushmore."
Incorrigan added that Boston Harbor is also "a major flyway for countless migratory birds" and situated under flight paths for jumbo jets arriving and departing from Logan Airport.
"And let's not forget the LNG tankers that enter the harbor on a regular basis," Incorrigan said. "If an LNG tanker struck one of these wind turbine monstrosities, well, to quote Ringo Starr, it's 'Good Night, Vienna.' "
Incorrigan also pointed out how the Boston is "already heavily industrialized."
"Wouldn't it be better to put them in a relatively pristine area like, say, Nantucket Sound? From what I understand, the wind is far better at that location anyway."
"Why are these projects always proposed in areas like this?" Incorrigan asked. "Wouldn't it be better to put them in a relatively pristine area like, say, Nantucket Sound? From what I understand, the wind is far better at that location anyway."
A study commissioned by the Alliance found that the three turbines proposed by Romney would generate only .00000012 percent of the electricity used in the Boston area, while the electricity generated by the turbines would not be used in Boston, but in Nome, Alaska.
The study also claimed that property values of triple-deckers in East Boston, Charlestown and South Boston would plummet if the turbines were built, as would the rental rates for law offices and consulting firms in Boston high-rises.
The Alliance claims to have collected "millions of signatures" on petitions circulated earlier today and has retained the services of several public relations firms whose offices overlook the harbor.
For their first public protest, members of the Alliance plan to hold a prayer vigil tonight at the graves of victims of the Boston Massacre.
Late Breaking Development
It was later reported that Cape Wind President, Gordon Jamesian IV,was outraged that anyone could have the audacity to install a heavy industrial wind factory complex taller than the Tobin Bridge in a national treasure like Boston Harbor.
" The elevated highway route could afford them a glancing view of these monsterous mechanized traumatizing symbols of evil."
He presented a map showing that if all the buildings between Louisburg Square and Boston Harbor were removed than Louisburg Square residents could still not see it.
When asked what he was trying to convey by showing the map, a bewildered Jamesian lashed out at reporters reprimanding them for insensitivity to the fact that these fine residents often drive on Route 93 to reach their homes in Osterville. " The elevated highway route could afford them a glancing view of these monsterous mechanized traumatizing symbols of evil."
When a reporter reminded Jamesian that portion of Route 93 had been depressed underground as part of the small Central Artery project so that it would be impossible to see the turbines enroute to Osterville, Mr Jamesian revealed a copy of the Stinking Hill Engineering Institute's report on the massive three turbine project.
Cause of Big Dig Tunnel Leaks
The report showed that, by installing the huge steel slashing daggerlike turbines, the displacement of the water pressure coupled with the Harbors currents could cause massive leaks and even gaping holes in the harbor portion of the tunnel.
These widening holes and the usage of underwater night vision binoculars could allow daring drivers to see the humongous 16 foot diameter monopile foundations.
Jamesian warned that if the Harbor location was approved than combination floating casino/ spent nuclear fuel rod storage facilities could be approved
