Statewide Mother's Day Cut-a-Thon - Cape Salons Wanted!
The Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition and Silent Spring Institute is calling on salons on the Cape and state-wide to participate in the May 8th, 2006 Mother's Day Cut-a-Thon.
The Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition and Silent Spring Institute are looking for salons in Massachusetts to participate in the Statewide Mother's Day Cut-a-Thon, their jointly-sponsored fundraising initiative for breast cancer advocacy and research focused on prevention. The Cut-a-Thon will take place on Monday, May 8th.
Participating salons will open on May 8 from 9am-4pm, offer haircuts for $10, and donate 100% of the proceeds to be shared equally by the two organizations.
Cheryl Osimo, coordinator of the event, invites salons across Massachusetts, large or small, to participate. "Women in Massachusetts face the grim statistic that they live in a state with one of the highest levels of breast cancer in the country. The Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition and Silent Spring Institute are committed to finding ways to prevent breast cancer. You can help! Encourage the salon you patronize to participate. If you own, manage, or work in a salon, please join with us. Why not give the gift of a haircut for breast cancer prevention for Mother's Day?"
Established in 1991, the Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition is the state's leading breast cancer advocacy organization striving for an end to the breast cancer epidemic through activism, education, and research into prevention. Defining breast cancer as a political issue, the Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition challenges all obstacles to the eradication of this disease.
Silent Spring Institute is a non-profit partnership of scientists, physicians, public health advocates, and community activists united around the common goal of identifying and changing the links between the environment and women's health, especially breast cancer. The Institute was founded in 1994 by MBCC in response to concerns about patterns of elevated breast cancer incidence in the state.
The deadline for salon registration in the Cut-a-Thon is Friday, April 21. To learn more about MBCC and Silent Spring Institute, visit www.mbcc.org and www.silentspring.org. For additional information or a registration form, call Emmie Murphy at 508-775-1194 or email murph75@verizon.net.
