CCMA Announces Summer Art Camp for Kids Beginning July 6th

Eight weekly sessions offered

The Cape Cod Museum of Art offers 8 weekly sessions of special art activities for children from July 6 through August 21. Sessions include A Funtastic Fairy Tale, Around the World, A Very, Merry UnBirthday! Oodles of Materials, Ocean Exploreres, and more.

The Monday through Friday sessions run from 9:30am to noon and are suitable for ages 6 - 12 years. Most weeks are $175, or $150 for CCMA members. Instructors are Alexandra Marcello Roberts and Judi Olkkola.

The museum also offers workshops for children in most days, 1:30pm - 3:30pm from July 5 through August 24. The fee is $35, or $25 for CCMA members. For more information or to register, please call Linda McNeill-Kemp, education director at 508,385-4477 x 25.

Week 1: Multi-Media: Your Key to Imagination

Discover ways to make all kinds of art with painting, weaving without a loom, masks, printing, collage and etching. Some materials used are sand, shells, tissue, feathers, pom-poms, flumes, yarn, glitter, crazy ribbon.

Week 2: A Funtastic Fairy Tale

For kids who love a little drama; use your creativity and imagination to create props, masks and sets as we bring a fairy tale to life. Family and friends are invited to join us for our performance showcasing students' creative interpretations of our favorite tales.

Week 3: Around the World

Members: $150 Non-members: $175

Try painting and drawing in the style of your favorite artists-the Cubistic style of Picasso, the Impressionism of Renoir and Monet, the Boogie Woogie Jazz of Mondrian or the style of Georgia O'Keeffe. Here are all the materials we'll try out: watercolors, poster and acrylic paints, chalk, pastels.

Celebrate your birthday every day! Make crazy party hats, design a wild and wacky birthday cake and create portraits and books that celebrate who you are. Share and enjoy your art on our last day with, what else, a birthday party!

Experience an art adventure using oodles of materials! Come discover what you can create! Will it be a sculpture, collage, mobile or a weaving?

Week 6: Drawing and Painting

Discover and develop your creativity through exciting drawing and painting activities that celebrate the work of your favorite artists. Come explore the museum and see and create original masterpieces.

Week 7: Ocean Explorers

Magical mermaids, wonderful whales, creative crabs, and "fintastic" fish will appear as you explore the ocean through art, sharing information from IFAW.

Week 8: Squiggly, Wiggly, Jiggly

Come have fun with dynamic 2-D and 3-D art using neon, fluorescent and acrylic paint, modeling dough, paper mache and finger paint!
