Lobster roll luncheons and more--digging for Cape Cod treasures
From lobster rolls and fish fries to ballgames, bingo and band concerts
When you live on Cape Cod year-round, chances are you work in an industry related to tourism in some way.
That is of course true working for CapeCodToday.com and her older sister, Best Read Guide. At times, we find ourselves submerged in tourism and vacation activities--most of which we cannot partake in due to work and time restraints.
So we decided to get out there and try something new--take in an event we add to our calendar, but never think to attend. Of course we are talking about anything from church luncheons to bas
eball games and town band concerts. Most of these events take place on Cape through July and August. They offer good old hometown fun and a chance to chat with folks--makes some new friends and catch up with some of the old ones. Most are also either free or very inexpensive. And chances are a portion of the cost you pay for a luncheon or dinner will go to a good cause.
Where better to start than a lobster roll luncheon? 'Tis that time of the year and it's almost un-American--especially in these here parts--if you haven't had your first lobster roll of the season by now.
As it was a Wednesday, we headed over to the Harwich United Methodist Church at One Church Street in Harwich (close to the corner of Route 137 and Queen Anne Road). The ladies of the church serve up a lobster roll luncheon every Wednesday from 11:30am to 1pm through August 30th.
Take-out is available by calling 508-432-3734 or you can just run over and eat it there or take it with you. We drove over and for $10.50 we received a delicious lunch consisting of a lobster roll, chips, pickles, iced tea (or lemonade) and dessert--in this case, a devilishly decadent brownie.
The ladies were sweet and the kitchen hummed along like a well-oiled machine. And the lobster? Yum. Big chunks of lobster meat held together with the perfect amount of mayo. And no fillers!
If you find yourself in the area and you've got a real hankerin' for a lobster roll--check these ladies out!
Next week, who knows! Maybe more lobster rolls or something different for a change...
Email us at info@capecodtoday.com if your church, group or organization has a luncheon, dinner or other event to submit to our calendar. Or let us know if there is a meal or event you'd like us to attend--if we do, we just might feature it here!
