Yarmouth Friends (Quaker) Meeting Vigil in August

Hiroshima Memorial Candlelight Vigil for Peace - August 6th at 8pm

Sponsored by the Yarmouth Friends (Quaker) Meeting

Sunday, August 6th, 2006, 8pm

The Yarmouth Friends (Quaker) Meeting has traditionally observed August 6th, Hiroshima Day, as a day to remember the tragic human cost of war and to re-commit ourselves to the cause of peace. During this time of continued warfare, we are acutely aware of the human loss and suffering which escalates daily. Our witness for peace is now more urgently needed than ever before. Please join us as we hold prayerful vigil for all victims of war and pray for an end to the violence which threatens our world.

Ground Zero in Hiroshima remains today as a silent testimony to the bomb's destructive power.
The Yarmouth Friends invite you to join us for a Candlelight Vigil on the lawn at the Yarmouth Friends (Quaker) Meetinghouse, 58 North Main Street, South Yarmouth, on Sunday evening, August 6th, at 8pm.

The silent vigil, lasting about an hour, will conclude with a brief period for sharing reflections.

Chairs are available for those who wish to sit. In case of inclement weather, the vigil will be held inside the Meetinghouse. For additional information, please call Chuck Micciche at 508-432-4757.

Directions to Yarmouth Friends Meeting Yarmouth:
Friends Meetinghouse is located at 58 North Main St., in South Yarmouth, MA 02664. North Main St. is located off Rt. 28 just west of the Bass River Bridge in South Yarmouth.  Before the bridge is the intersection of Rt. 28 and North Main St. (the Mercantile Shop is on the corner); travel north on North Main St. and bear to the right (Station Ave veers off to the left); travel two blocks on North Main St. and the Meetinghouse and burial ground are on the right.

Directions from Route 6;
From Rt. 6, take exit 8, Station Ave. towards South Yarmouth. At the lights, cross White's Path (Pass Supermarket on the left) and cross through the second set of lights at Old Townhouse Rd. Proceed straight on Station Ave for about 2 miles. Pass by the Dennis Yarmouth Regional High School on the left, St. Pius X Catholic Church, also on the left. Take a left onto Pine Street, which will take you to North Main Street and you will be facing the Friends Meeting House across the street.

Parking:
Parking at Yarmouth Friends Meetinghouse is limited. Carpooling is encouraged. Parking is available on Kelley Rd. along the pipe fence to the rear of the Meetinghouse along side the burial ground. Parking is also available on the private shell road on the opposite side of the burial ground, but only along side of the Meetinghouse fence (and not on the other side of the road in the private business lot). Also, there is small dirt road behind the burial ground in back of the Friends Schoolhouse; there are some parking spaces between the trees. Finally, there is a great deal of parking in the neighborhood behind the Meetinghouse; however, we would ask you to please park so that tires are not on the lawns of our neighbors.
