The Hyannis Sound A Cappella Experience
The Hyannis Sound, a regionally famous all-male a cappella singing group, is doing more than 90 performances this summer, so there's no excuse not to see them. Using no instruments, only their voices, this group of 10 college-age men perform a variety of musical genres, from jazz standards to contemporary pop.
It was amazing to hear how they made percussion and other instrumental sounds. I saw them recently at the Cape Cod Covenant Church in Brewster. It was my first time hearing live a cappella. Even though I sat in the back row (get to their shows early--they have a big fan base!), I thoroughly enjoyed the performance. They started off with "Gimme Some Lovin", then did Daniel Powter's "Bad Day", then a song by the Fray. Their version of Ray Charles' "Georgia" was very moving, as was the Beatles' "Lady Madonna" . In between songs they told entertaining anecdotes about themselves.
I would highly recommend going to see the Hyannis Sound before the summer is over and they go back to school. You won't regret it. Click here to see their regularly scheduled and special performances. --Julie Brooks
