Have your blood drawn by Dracula in Yarmouth Port
Well, almost...the Edward Gorey House presents the Dracula Blood Drive, August 25 & 26
A unique celebration of the new Edward Gorey's Dracula exhibit
Have your blood drawn by Dracula...well, almost. To celebrate the opening of the new “Edward Gorey’s Dracula” exhibit, the Edward Gorey House and C-Lab at Cape Cod Hospital are having the first “Edward Gorey’s Dracula Blood Drive” on Friday, August 25 and Saturday, August 26th from 10am to 4pm each day at the Gorey House. The technicians have promised to wear black capes and paint bite marks on donors’ necks.
Visitors who donate blood will receive both refreshments and free admission to the museum.
The new exhibit, which runs until December 17, 2006, includes Gorey’s original set and costume designs, rare production photographs, and Gorey’s Dracula Tony Awards for best revival and best costume designs. The show premiered in Nantucket and then moved to Broadway. Edward Gorey made significant innovative contributions to the theater world in his roles as playwright, producer, director, set and costume designer. His most commercially and critically successful “Edward Gorey’s Dracula” ran on Broadway from 1977 to 1980, followed by successful national road companies as well as foreign productions.
Summer hours are Wednesday–Saturday from 11:00am to 4:00pm and Sundays from 12:00 noon to 4:00pm. Visitors may take a self-directed tour of the Gorey House or enjoy the company of one of the volunteer tour guides, many of whom knew Edward personally and are more than happy to share their “Gorey” stories. Our newly renovated and expanded gift-shop now offers and even wider variety of interesting merchandise.
The Edward Gorey House celebrates and preserves the life and works of Edward Gorey, an honored American author, artist, playwright, set and costume designer. In tribute to his legacy, the Gorey House, owned and lived in by Gorey himself, displays his diverse and extraordinary talents and reflects his distinct personality. The House also honors Gorey's passion and concern for animals, raising awareness about local and national animal welfare issues. As a dedicated commemoration to Gorey, the House strives to entertain, educate and inspire visitors of all ages, offering a unique introduction to Edward Gorey, the artist and person.
