More Wi-Fi coming to cape
Hyannis Airport, two hotels and a dozen more by June
By Walter Brooks
Cape Cod visitors will be better connected thanks to Transnet Wireless, one of the nation’s top providers of wireless Internet kiosks. Its local distributor, Masscot Wireless, has added three additional machines to its growing list of Wi-Fi hotspots.
Up to 64 users at the same time can receive wireless Internet access within hundreds of feet of these Wi-Fi Internet Terminals. The charge is $3.95 an hour, $7.95 a day, & $29.95 per month.
Two area hotels and the “Café at the Airport” located in Hyannis' Barnstable Municipal Airport, Massachusetts’ third-busiest airport, now boast wireless Internet access – the demand for which is skyrocketing.
“Securing presence at Barnstable Airport is a major step in making Transnet Wireless a significant provider on the cape.” said Brad Cartwright, Transnet Wireless president. “With Masscot’s aggressive marketing and expansion plans, we aim to become the premier Wi-Fi provider on the area.”
Transnet Wireless is establishing a national network of Wi-Fi Hot Spots through local distributorship program in which the Hot Spot equipment is placed in locations at no cost to the location owner. The hardware, maintenance and monthly Internet connection fees are all paid for by the local distributor, who profits from usage fees. A percentage of the revenues are also shared with the location.
Masscot Wireless knew it was time for the area to go wireless when weekly community requests that began during the summer of 2003 turned quickly into daily inquiries. They first planned on opening an Internet café but decided to become a Transnet distributor because of Transnet’s comprehensive package and unparalleled business opportunity.
Masscot Wireless hopes to have twelve Hot Spots up and running by June of 2005.
There are other locations for wi-fi internet access on Cape Cod, and many are free. The Falmouth Enterprise offers a list of nearly forty hot spots here.
