Strandings continue, eight more dolphins come ashore
Eleventh day of strandings continues as eight dolphins come ashore at Chequessett Beach in Wellfleet

WELLFLEET
- Stranding network rescuers hurried to a Wellfleet beach today in hopes of saving eight Atlantic white-sided dolphins that have come ashore. The team of staff and volunteers brings with them medical supplies, ambulances and stretches--all tools necessary to aid distressed marine mammals.- See the Video on NECN here.
Today marks the eleventh day of strandings which began on December 29, 2006. Close to thirty dolphins have stranded themselves on Cape beaches in that time.
Rescuers are worried this year's strandings are following the same pattern as in previous years. Last year more than 150 marine animals were stranded between Barnstable and Wellfleet. This unfortunate pattern has led to the Cape being named one of five worldwide mass stranding "hot spots".
As the threat of future strandings continues, the Cape Cod Stranding Network (CCSN) is seeking donations to help purchase and maintain the equipment and supplies necessary to rescue these distressed animals.
Donations may be made by contacting the Cape Cod Foundation at 800-947-2322 or by visting the foundation's website here. The Cape Cod Foundation has partnered with the Perkel Family Fund and has announced the creation of the CCSN Emergency Fund. Donations will be matched dollar for dollar up to $5000.
The Cape Cod Stranding Network (CCSN) responds quickly to stranded marine mammals. Should you spot a dolphin or other marine mammal in distress, CCSN requests that you contact them immediately by calling 508-743-9548.
