Sarah Son-Theroux: New Teacher at Cape Cod Museum of Art
Son-Theroux to teach art classes at museum's Weny Education Center
Sarah Son-Theroux has joined the teaching staff at CCMA's Weny Education Center, and will teach four classes in the Winter Session:
- Middle School Art Studio: Fridays, March 9 - April 13, 3:45pm-4:45pm
- Figure Drawing for Adults: Thurdays, March 8 - April 12, 6:30pm-8:30pm
- Figure Drawing for High School Students: Thursdays, March 8 - April 12, 3:30pm-5:30pm
- Beginning Oil Painting: Fridays, March 9 - April 13 - 1pm-3pm
Son-Theroux was born in Pennsylvania and studied at The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and Indiana University. She was awarded a painting residency at the Vermont Studio Center and a painting residency at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art. Son-Theroux taught English and art in Korea, and taught art at Indiana University, Stony Brook, New York, and Tabor Academy in Marion, MA.
Son-Theroux says, "As a teacher, I like the challenge of giving to each student the opportunity to explore himself or herself, to lead out of them what may reside inside...Discover is, more than anything else - self discovery."
As an artist Son-Theroux is drawn to painting landscapes. "The attempt at rendering nature is an adventure of 'traveling,' for each time one picks up a brush there is a new map to ponder, a new road to travel."
Son-Theroux was recently married to award-winning novelist and teacher, Alexander Theroux, and they reside in West Barnstable.
