Cape Air Update on Temporary Ramp-Down

Cape Air releases update on temporary ramp-down of Cessna 402 flight operation

Information provided by Cape Air - June 14, 2007: Yesterday, our news was about the voluntary, temporary ramp-down of our Cessna 402 flight operation due to concerns regarding an abnormal wear pattern on a specific engine component. Today, our news is about our ramp-up.

Through extraordinary efforts by members of our Cape Air family and, especially, by our Cape Air Maintenance team, our recovery is well underway. We are resuming flight operations on many of our routes as replacement parts are installed at a swift but steady pace. For customers traveling in the next few days, please note the following update:

For Nantucket Airlines customers

  • Thursday, June 14, 2007 & Friday, June 15, 2007 - Flights between Hyannis and Nantucket will resume, but on a reduced schedule. We will do our best to honor your flight reservations and, as an alternative, Island Airlines will honor Nantucket Airlines tickets.

For New England customers

  • Thursday, June 14, 2007 - All routes will operate, but on a reduced schedule as we bring back 12 - 14 aircraft. Although we are doing our best to contact customers whose flight plans may be affected, we encourage customers desiring the most up to date information to call Cape Air at 1-800-352-0714 to reconfirm.
  • Friday, June 15, 2007 - With 10 more aircraft back in service, we plan to be able to accommodate most passengers holding confirmed reservations.

For Caribbean customers

  • Thursday, June 14, 2007 - Flights between St. Thomas and St. Croix will be operated on a reduced schedule. For all other routes, we are doing our best to reaccommodate you on other airlines and to contact you. If you have not heard from Cape Air and have a flight on this day, you may contact us or check-in at the airport and we will work with you on available alternate arrangements.
  • Friday, June 15, 2007 - We anticipate more aircraft to be available and will have a few more routes on a reduced schedule. Again, we will do our best to work with you on alternate arrangements if your flight is affected. We will post more specific information here when available.

For Florida customers

  • Thursday, June 14, 2007 & Friday, June 15, 2007 - If you have not heard from our partner, Continental Airlines, please contact Continental Airlines 1-800-525-0280 for assistance in re-booking your flight.
Unused tickets may be used on a future Cape Air flight up to one year from the date of issue, or you may request a refund. E-tickets may be refunded through email by emailing the e-ticket to reserv@flycapeair.com. Paper tickets may be refunded by mail to Cape Air, Attention: Refunds, 660 Barnstable Road, Hyannis, MA 02601.

Thank you for your understanding as the entire Cape Air family works hard to minimize the disruption in your travel plans. For 18 years we have been committed to taking a proactive, unmitigated approach to safety and, although ramping-down our operation was a difficult decision, it was the safest response to the situation. We expect full operations to resume in a few days and appreciate your support.
