Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies to Dedicate Marine Lab
PCCS to dedicate new marine lab in Provincetown on June 21, 2007
PROVINCETOWN ? The Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies (PCCS) will dedicate the new Marine Lab on 5 Holway Avenue in honor of the late Ruth Hiebert, and her father, Dr. Daniel Hiebert, on June 21, 2007 at 10 am with guest speaker Ian A. Bowles, Secretary, Executive Office of Environmental Affairs and appearances by State Senator Robert O? Leary and State Representative Sarah Peake.
The Lab served as a Catholic school for St. Peter the Apostle Church from 1964 ? 1985, and as an annex to Provincetown High School from 1985 to 2005. Today the 11,300-square-foot Marine Lab houses the Center?s science, research and education staff, and includes an 850-square foot library on the upper level, named for the late Michael Rice of WGBH and NOVA television fame, and a 1,500-square-foot conference area on the lower level; both are available for public use.
PCCS incorporated green elements into the renovation of the building that has achieved 85?90% of so-called ?green? architectural standards.
The public is encouraged to attend the free event and meet PCCS scientists and the Center?s world-renowned disentanglement team, learn about ongoing research and tour the facility which has long been a part of Provincetown?s landscape.
