Cape & Islands Red Cross Chapter Seeks Volunteers

Organization seeks volunteers, will provide training

HYANNIS - The American Red Cross, Cape Cod and Islands Chapter, is looking for additional volunteers to expand its current base of volunteers. Training will be provided.

Unless otherwise indicated, volunteers will be active in their own community or in one of the zones near their own town: Upper Cape, Mid Cape, Lower Cape or Martha’s Vineyard or Nantucket. Occasionally, travel to the chapter house in Hyannis may be necessary. Volunteers are needed for the following areas:

Public Affairs in Disaster, to support the chapter and its respective zones in the case of a local disaster relief operation (such as a local fire) and to support the chapter Public Affairs in the case of a state or national disaster relief operation.

Staff Services, to support the chapter and its volunteers with volunteer coordination and support scheduling to ensure smooth collaboration between all parties involved when dealing with a disaster relief operation; locally and nationally.

Emergency Operations/Government Relations, to represent the chapter to our government and emergency management partners by attending monthly meetings and when assigned to incident command and multi-agency coordination centers and other emergency management settings.

Disaster Management, to support the chapter during normal business hours 8:30 to 4:30 each week, and in the case of a disaster relief operation, to help manage shelters in their own community among other tasks.

Website, to support the maintenance and updating of the chapter web site, www.capecodandislandsredcross.org, especially during times of disaster.

Data-entry, to support the fundraising efforts of the chapter.

It’s the Chapter’s goal to ensure that every household on Cape Cod and the Islands knows which materials are
needed at home to survive the first three days after a disaster; knows where the primary and secondary shelters are; that there are enough volunteers trained to operate shelters as local emergency officials open them and that there are adequate supplies to care in each shelter for three days.

All American Red Cross disaster assistance is free, made possible by voluntary donations of time and money from people in our local communities. Training to volunteers is free.
