Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater Receives $600,000 Grant
$600,000 grant awarded to Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater
Outer Cape Theater one of thirty-six MA organizations to receive grant
WELLFLEET - Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater (WHAT) celebrated an award of $600,000 from the Cultural Facilities Fund (CFF) co-administered with MassDevelopment and the Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC). On March 11, 2008 WHAT celebrated with state representatives and cultural institutions across Massachusetts at a formal ceremony in the State House. WHAT is one in thirty-six organizations across Massachusetts to receive this grant. The funds will help defray some of the construction costs incurred for the new Julie Harris Stage.
State Senator Robert O’Leary, State Representative Sarah Peake, Mass Cultural Council Executive Director Anita Walker, and Mass Development President/CEO Robert Culver presented Jeff Zinn, WHAT’s Artistic Director and Carol Green, WHAT’s Broad President, with their award check of $600,000 on March 25th at the Julie Harris Stage Lobby.
Founded in 1985, WHAT is nationally known as Cape Cod's most adventurous professional theater company. Now in its 25th year, WHAT has completed a successful first year of winter programming – including the 6 in6 playreading series, collaboration with Cape Cinema and the Provincetown International Film Festival for WHATflix and the Local Filmmakers Takeover. Other spring programming introduces the WHAT Playwrights Alliance (a week long residency for local and national playwrights) and a WHAT Benefit featuring the Chatham Chorale. WHAT opens their first full production for 2008, Last Train to Nibroc, which will run from March 28 through April 13 at the Julie Harris Stage. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 PM, with Sunday matinees at 3:00 PM. General admission tickets are $29. Outer Cape Voter's discount tickets are $26.
