Cape Cod Chamber Music Festival kicks off 29th season on May 25th
Festival to feature innovative programs, top-Caliber performers, and diverse venues from Provincetown to Cotuit
NORTH CHATHAM —The Cape Cod Chamber Music Festival will launch its 29th season with a “prelude” concert on May 25th, to be followed by a series of a dozen diverse programs in August – the core of the festival – and a “postlude” performance in October. The opening August concert and reception will be underwritten by a $10,000 grant from Tufts Health Plan.
“We are extremely excited about this year’s Festival offerings,” said Jon Nakamatsu and Jon Manasse, who are looking forward to their second season as artistic directors. “Programs will feature an array of distinctive works – some familiar, many not – ranging from the classical to the romantic to the modern, and even to the jazzy.” They added that a number of the programs will integrate music with visual arts – specifically painting and film – and also involve collaborations with other Cape Cod arts institutions, both to enlarge and enhance the listening experience and to extend the Festival’s reach and audience appeal.
According to Executive Director Elaine Lipton, diversity will mark not only the programs, but the performers and the venues as well. Musicians will include the artistic directors and a roster of talented guests, as well as long-term Festival pillars, including the Borromeo String Quartet (led by former Festival Artistic Director Nicholas Kitchen). As in previous seasons, to make concerts accessible to the maximum number of attendees, they will be held in locations from one end of the Cape to the other: Provincetown Art Association and Museum, First Congregational Church (Wellfleet), First Congregational Church (Chatham), Cape Cod Museum of Fine Arts (Dennis), and Cotuit Center for the Arts.
