Willy’s Gym Offers Free Self-Defense Instruction to the Entire Cape Cod Community
EASTHAM —Willy’s Gym has announced free self-defense instruction for the entire Cape Cod Community. With violent crimes and home invasions in our recent headlines, Willy’s Gym owner Barbara Niggel is committed to making Cape Cod a safer place. “Our intention is to touch as many people as possible and empower them. Fear only exists in the past and the future- we can change this now and enjoy this beautiful place we live in. This is our home. We have to make a difference,” said Niggel.
“I love Cape Cod and I love Cape Codders,” world-renowned self-defense teacher Barbara Niggel said. “To hear that our children are being taken from their beds and attacked and our elderly robbed and beaten— it is not acceptable to me. So I have made a commitment to teach non-verbal and verbal de-escalation, confrontation and awareness techniques as well as physical defensive strategies to the entire Cape for FREE.”
This is not a trial membership. This is a valuable opportunity to learn common sense self-defense for free.

“We will teach kids a special NO GO YELL TELL™ program that I developed and that is taught all over the world,” said Niggel. “I keep a pretty low profile on the Cape, but am well known all over the world for teaching self-defense. In fact, our 3 Hours of Power programs and No GO YELL TELL™ programs are taught in 4 countries in addition to the US. I do not teach from a fear-based position— I teach fun, common sense defensive tactics with well-honed non-verbal and verbal strategies.”
Classes will be held in Orleans every Monday and Wednesday at 6:30 for teens, men and women. Men will be taught separately, as conflicts between men tend to escalate quicker and differently than when women are attacked by another woman or a man. A children’s class is offered in Orleans at 12:30 on Saturdays. Hyannis and Eastham will also be teaching classes one week a month, and classes in Orleans will be ongoing every week.
“90% of all attacks can be prevented when people are aware and use non-verbal or verbal strategies,” said Niggel. “Of course there are the times that physical defensive tactics are needed, but common sense is the key to teaching the general public, who only have a few hours to devote to this training. We suggest that people take at least 2 classes for a total of 3 hours, which translates to our 3 Hours of Power program. For children, even one class is helpful, although of course we are happy to continue their training free of charge if they are able to attend more classes. We also work right along with the parents on safety strategies for their children.”
