Cape & Islands Chapter of the Red Cross Announces Water Safety Classes for Facilities with Swimming Pools
The American Red Cross, Cape Cod and Islands Chapter Organizes “Water Safety Today” Classes for Facilities with Swimming Pools
HYANNIS – The American Red Cross, Cape Cod and Islands Chapter will organize a “Water Safety Today” class on June 4th. This course teaches individuals how to recognize, prevent and respond to water emergencies.
The class meets the Town of Yarmouth Department of Health requirement and the Provisions of Chapter 111, Section 31 of the Massachusetts General Laws.
Pool staff will learn to:
- Identify and discuss the hazards and risks that are present in an aquatic environment
- Identify and discuss water safety tips that help individuals remain safe in, on or round the natural or artificial sources of water.
- Identify and practice important basic lifesaving techniques, that can be used to help someone in trouble in the water
- Identify the benefits of learning how to swim.
- Identify ways parents or caregivers can help prepare their child for a positive swimming lesson experience.
Classes will be held at the Red Cross Chapter House, located at 286 South Street, Hyannis. The cost is $35 per person. For groups of eight or more, instructors can come to the pool site. The next class is being held June 4, 2008, 1:00-3:00 pm. Registration and prepayment are required.
