Volunteer 'Victims' Needed for Red Cross Shelter Simulations May 31st, 2008

HYANNIS - The public is invited to come play as volunteer disaster-affected clients at upcoming shelter simulations for the Cape Cod and Islands Chapter of the American Red Cross.  In preparation of the upcoming Hurricane season, the chapter is organizing a Cape-wide shelter simulation in Upper Cape, Lower Cape and Mid Cape, supported by the Command Center at the Chapter house.  

The Shelter simulations will occur on May 31, 2008 at:

• Cape Cod Regional Tech in Harwich
• Nauset Regional High School in Eastham
• Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School in Yarmouth
• Oak Ridge School in Sandwich

To make this an optimal training experience for the Red Cross Disaster Volunteers, each shelter would need 50 volunteer clients, to be available for the shelter closest to them from 9:00 a.m. until noon on May 31st.  Those interested in volunteering as clients must contact Casey Lutz at (508) 775-1540 Ext. 14 or at supportone@ccirecdross.org. 

These simulations will help the Red Cross be fully prepared and run shelters efficiently  and effectively in the event that a hurricane does strike the area in the approaching hurricane season.  Members of the public who volunteer will also benefit by knowing where the shelters are in their area and by understanding the procedures at those shelters.
