Brewster first Cape Cod town to be visited by the Mass. Memories Road Show
The Mass. Memories Road Show is Coming to Brewster!
Brewster will be the first Cape Cod town to be visited
On Saturday afternoon, September 13th, residents of Brewster are invited to bring up to 3 photos or documents that illustrate the early - and/or - current life of Brewster. The items will be scanned onsite and the originals will be immediately returned to the owners. You can also contribute to an oral history video project and tell the story relevant to your photos or documents - on camera.
This event is locally sponsored by the Brewster Archives Committee, a town-wide committee which includes members from the Town Clerk’s office, the Brewster Ladies’ Library, the Brewster Historical Society, the First Parish Church and interested Brewster history researchers. The committee’s mission is to collaboratively and cooperatively identify, preserve, catalog and provide access to Brewster historical and archival records.
All scanned information will also become part of a state-wide educational website called Mass. Memories Road Show: Your Place in Massachusetts History. The Mass. Memories Road Show is a project of the University of Massachusetts at Boston and the Massachusetts Foundation for the Humanities. Their goal is to help build community, encourage the protection of original artifacts, and to facilitate the sharing of cultural heritage information with educators, students, and the general public. Over the next few years the Road Show hopes to visit all 351 communities in the Commonwealth.
The event, free and open to the public, will take place on Saturday, September 13 from 12pm to 4pm at the Brewster Ladies' Library, 1822 Main Street (Route 6A) in Brewster. Call (508-896-3913 ext.14) or email Kathleen Remillard at the Brewster Ladies' Library for more information.
