President Kathleen Schatzberg Begins Her Eleventh and Final Year as President of Cape Cod Community College
Speaking during Opening Day ceremonies on Tuesday September 2, 2008, Cape Cod Community College President Kathleen Schatzberg announced that she will leave her position at the end of next summer, completing eleven years of service to the institution.
“There is a time in life for everything,” she noted, “and after ten very wonderful years at an extraordinary institution, the time has come for me to explore what life has ahead for me. The role of today’s college president is ‘24/7’ and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love the excitement, the challenge, and the great people with whom I work every single day. But, there comes a point at which it is time to evaluate what will be next, and for me that time is now.”
In her comments to the College community gathered in the Tilden Arts Center for the traditional first-day meeting of the new semester, President Schatzberg noted that it is very common for someone in her position to make the College’s Trustees and the entire institution aware of her decision at the start of the academic year, giving all a full year to prepare for new leadership. She made it clear that her choice is simply a personal one, made to allow her to look ahead to a time when she can plan more travel, more time with family, more work with and for the peace and justice causes so close to her heart, and to be free to consider opportunities to move in entirely new directions
“This is not an ending, but rather the beginning of a new chapter in both my life and the life of this incredible institution. I’m very excited to see just how it will develop for both of us,” she concluded.
