Fuel Assistance Applications Information Available for Sandwich Residents
SANDWICH - Sandwich Council on Aging (COA) is the intake site for Sandwich residents of all ages for Fuel Assistance Applications. Appointments are available Tuesdays, Thursdays and Thursday evenings. Call the Sandwich COA at 508-888-4737 to schedule your appointment and to receive the information you will need to compile in order to complete the application.
The South Shore Community Action fuel assistance program is open from November 1 ? April 30, 2009.
The program is based on your household size and income. For example, the income guideline is:
200% of Poverty Limit
- Household size 1 below $20,800
- Household size 2 below $28,000
- Household size 3 below $35,200
- Household size 4 below $42,400
- Household size 5 below $49,600
- Household size 6 below $56,800
- Household size 7 below $64,000
- Household size 8 below $71,200
You could be eligible for additional benefit if the cost of heating your home for the last 12 months is high and exceeds the threshold set for your fuel type.
You can apply at the Sandwich Council on Aging or in Plymouth at the South Shore Community Action office, 265 South Meadow Road, Plymouth (508-746-6707) or at the Hyannis office, 20 Willow Ave. (508-778-0870).
Benefit amounts range from a high of $560 for households at 100% of poverty level or below to $385 for households at or below 200% of federal poverty level. These benefit amounts can change if the Federal and/or State governments fund with additional dollars. Households in subsidized housing receive a lower benefit -- $280 at 100% of poverty limit to $193 for households at or below 200%.
The Sandwich Council on Aging does oversee various donation funds to assist Sandwich residents of any age with heating assistance. Please consider this option if you are over the income limit for the State fuel assistance program.
