A conversation with Padraig O'Malley
WEST BARNSTABLE - On Wednesday, December 10 at 2:15pm, Cape Cod Community College will host "Iraq Peace: Preparing for the End Game", conversation with Padraig O'Malley. Dr. O'Malley is the John Joseph Moakley Distinguished Professor of Peace and Reconciliation at the McCormack Graduate School of Policy Studies, University of Massachusetts in Boston.
The talk is presented by the Academy for Lifelong Learning of Cape Cod. Dr. O'Malley will be interviewed by WXTK News' Matt Pitta. The program will run about 90 minutes beginning with the interview followed by a question and answer period with the audience.
Padraig O?Malley (pronounced pour ? rig) is an internationally recognized authority on reconciliation and peace negotiations, and deserves much of the credit for the successful outcome in Northern Ireland.
Over the past months he has been working with Iraqi leaders and has held a series of meetings to bring a peaceful outcome to Iraq. Earlier this year he conducted two meetings in Helsinki with 36 Iraqi leaders; the outcome was the Helsinki Principles, a list of agreed upon guidelines for Iraqi peace. His knowledge on this subject is deep and wide.
If you?re interested in peace in Iraq, this is a "must attend" event.
"My great fortune has been to be present where one-time opponents have sought to reconcile their differences and forge peaceful futures for their countries. The words of those participants hold powerful lessons for societies across the world and my focus at the McCormack Graduate School has been to try to make those lessons available to as many people as possible."
