USCG Auxiliary Chatham Flotilla 11-01 to Offer Boating Skills Course January 2009
Nine-week course to be offered in Chatham in January 2009
CHATHAM - The Chatham Flotilla of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary in conjunction with the American Canoe Association is offering a Boating Skills & Seamanship course on Tuesday evenings from 7pm to 9pm starting on January 20, 2009.
This is a nine-week course to be held at the Chatham Community Center and the US Coast Guard Station Chatham.
The course includes training in boat handling, navigation and safety skills.
Pre-registration is required, and the class size is limited. Text books and materials cost $49.

UPCOMING 2009 Public Education Courses presented by Chatham Flotilla 11-01:
- "PaddleSmart from the Start" - Preventative Kayak Safety Symposium
This is a half day session to be held the last week of June 2009 (date to be determined). The course will be held at Jackknife Beach on Route 28 in North Chatham. This course is sanctioned by the American Canoe Association and features such topics as smart paddling, how to rescue yourself and others, navigation and understanding hazards. A Kayak Vessel and Equipment Check is available if you bring your own equipment, although no equipment is necessary. Call 508-240-1211 or email for more information. - Junior Public Boating Course
A condensed five session boating skills course sponsored by the Harwich Harbormaster Office, USCG Auxiliary and Environmental Police will be held during the first two weeks of July 2009. The sessions are on Tuesday, Thursday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday (exam) and will take place between 4pm and 6pm. An exam for completion of the course and qualification for motorboat operator's certificate will be given. The Environmental Police will provide materials for the course. There is no charge, however space is limited to 35 students ages 12 to 17. Contact Tom Leach at 508-430-7532.
