Cape Cod Community College Nursing Students Deliver Donations to A Baby Center in Hyannis
Nursing students deliver baby formula, clothing, wipes and over 1,700 diapers!

HYANNIS - Nursing Club Students from Cape Cod Community College were all smiles as they delivered infant care items to the community help organization, A Baby Center, in Hyannis on Dec. 10. Several cars were loaded with diapers (over 1700), wipes, lotion, blankets, children’s clothing and formula generously donated during the Department of Health Sciences Nursing/Allied Health Teaching Center “baby shower” recently held to introduce the department’s new SimBaby infant simulator.
Mary Pat Pierson, Director of A Baby Center, was delighted with the donation. Speaking to the students, she said that the group had “certainly done their part” to help the growing number of children in need on Cape Cod, noting that the Center had just experienced a record-breaking day with 55 babies receiving basic care items.
Infant care items were received during the introduction and demonstration of SimBaby held in the Nursing & Allied Health Learning resource Center at CCCC on November 20th. The College received this life-like infant simulator through a grant from the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education. Laura Seabury, Special Program Coordinator for the Nursing Department and instructor Catherine Casey-Lane joined students from the Nursing Club to organize the “baby shower” and deliver the items to A Baby Center, a non-profit program of the Cape Cod Council of Churches which provides basic needs to low-income babies on Cape Cod and the Islands.
Pierson explained to the students that the need for basic baby care items like diapers and clothing is growing in the community. The Center, which opened its doors in 2000, sees an average of 500 clients each month. Through volunteer efforts and donations, the Center provides essential baby items for children up to age three. Pierson noted that it “just wonderful” to receive this large donation as they prepare for the holiday season.
