Auditions Set for Waiting for Godot

Auditions for the Barnstable Comedy Club's March production of Waiting for Godot are set for the evenings of January 12-14.

Director John Watters is excited about bringing this thought-provoking play to Cape Cod?s theater audiences.  The play follows two consecutive days in the lives of a pair of men who divert themselves while they wait expectantly and unsuccessfully for someone named Godot to arrive. They claim that he?s an acquaintance but in fact seem to hardly know him, admitting that they would not recognize him were they to see him.  To occupy themselves, they eat, sleep, talk, argue, sing, play games, exercise, swap hats, and contemplate suicide ? anything "to hold the terrible silence at bay.?  Since its premiere in 1952, the play has been the subject of many, many different interpretations, perhaps one of the reasons it was voted ?the most significant English language play of the 20th century.?

In some ways, the play is a logical extension of its immediate predecessor on the BCC?s calendar.

Like Willie and Al, the Sunshine Boys, the two lead characters in Waiting for Godot are reminiscent of an aging American burlesque comedy team, sharing affection while at the same time habitually bickering with each other.

Thespians of the Cape, now?s your chance to sink your teeth into some of the meatiest roles penned in the past century.

The cast needs four men ages 25 to 60, and a young boy age 10-12.

Scripts will be available at the Sturgis and Hyannis libraries as usual.  And readers, this is a classic play that is not to be missed!

Auditions will take place January 12 through 14 at 7pm at the Barnstable Comedy Club on Route 6A in Barnstable Village. 508-362-1110.
