Cape Cod Healthcare names new chief financial officer
Michael L. Connors, C.P.A named new CFO
HYANNIS - Cape Cod Healthcare is pleased to announce the hiring of Michael L. Connors, C.P.A., as the next Chief
Financial Officer for the Cape Cod Healthcare system. In this role, Connors will report to Richard F. Salluzzo, M.D., M.B.A., President and CEO, Cape Cod Healthcare, and assume responsibility for oversight of all financial operations.
Connors, who most recently served for 14 years as CFO for Brockton-based Signature Healthcare, becomes just the second CFO in the 10-year old health system that operates Cape Cod Hospital, Falmouth Hospital and the Visiting Nurses Association of Cape Cod. He has an exceptional background in financial management, including public accounting experience and financial management. He has particular expertise in mergers and acquisitions, financing and capital markets, financial forecast modeling and management information systems.
“Cape Cod Healthcare has evolved to the point where it is a top-quality system with an excellent reputation, anchored by two strong hospitals,” said Connors. “I look forward to helping the system become even more effective in the delivery of top-quality healthcare services to Cape Codders.”
“We are delighted that we have attracted an executive of Michael Connors’ caliber and experience for this critical position,” said Dr. Salluzzo. “I know that Cape Cod Healthcare will benefit from his extensive background, knowledge and experience in so many financial aspects of the healthcare industry.”
“I’m pleased to join a strong health care system that has accomplished much since its formation,” Connors said. “I know Cape Cod Healthcare faces some financial challenges going forward. We need to ensure that we have excellent fiscal performance as a way to continue to provide the highest quality health care to our communities on the Cape. I look forward to working closely with our Board, physicians, senior management, and staff in addressing and solving these challenges.”
During his tenure with Signature, Connors formed a new physician corporation, which currently consists of 172 multi-specialty physician group practices and mid-level practitioners. Cape Cod Healthcare’s Board of Trustees, Administration and Medical Staff Leadership groups recognize the importance of close partnerships with the physicians on the Cape and Connors will work to formalize to formalize these partnerships. Among his other accomplishments at Signature, Connors launched a formal investment policy; developed an information systems plan outlining priorities over a five-year period; and implemented a new forecasting model incorporating short and long-term capital needs, liquidity requirements, available debt capacity and annual cash flow targets needed to support strategic initiatives.
Prior to joining Signature, Connors served as CFO for the Lahey Clinic in Burlington and as Vice President in Finance for South Shore Hospital. He has also worked at New England Deaconess Hospital and at Ernst & Young. He received his MBA from Boston University and his Bachelor of Science Degree from Babson College. Connors replaces Interim CFO Jeffrey Dykens, C.P.A., who will resume his role as Corporate Controller of CCHC.
“Cape Cod Healthcare has evolved to the point where it is a top-quality system with an excellent reputation, anchored by two strong hospitals,” said Connors. “I look forward to helping the system become even more effective in the delivery of top-quality healthcare services to Cape Codders.”
