GALE Fund celebrates 10th anniversary of service on Cape Cod
Spring Fling Dinner & Auction to be held on May 21st
The GALE (Gay and Lesbian Equity) Fund will celebrate its 10th anniversary of service to Cape Cod and the Islands with its annual Spring Fling Auction, on Thursday, May 21, 5:30 p.m., at the Wequassett Inn and Resort on Pleasant Bay, located on the Chatham-Harwich town line. Organizers expect this year’s fundraiser, which includes dinner, live music, and silent and live auctions, to be another big hit.
“Over the last decade, the GALE Fund and its members have supported dozens of important, innovative programs on the Cape and Islands.” - Rabbi Elias Lieberman of Falmouth, GALE Fund chair.
“Over the last decade, the GALE Fund and its members have supported dozens of important, innovative programs on the Cape and Islands,” said Rabbi Elias Lieberman of Falmouth, GALE Fund chair. “We will continue to address the unmet needs of people and organizations in our region. The Spring Fling draws our community together for an evening filled with laughter, good food, wonderful auction items, and opportunities to meet new friends. Most importantly, it affords them the tremendous satisfaction of knowing they're supporting the needs of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community.”
This year’s featured auction items include a week on a South Africa photo safari for two, a Dahon Ciao folding bike, eight hours of landscape design consultation, a week in Curacao, the always popular Dessert Frenzy, a whale watch for four on a private boat, and much more. Kathy Kingston again serves as auctioneer.
The GALE Fund, a component fund of the Cape Cod Foundation, offers grants to support organizations that serve the Cape and Islands’ LGBT population. Since its founding in 1998, the GALE Fund has granted more than $177,000 to local groups for education, youth services, healthcare, and cultural programs.
Grant recipients over the past decade include organizations as diverse as the Provincetown International Film Festival, the Yarmouth Council on Aging, Cape Cod Children’s Place, Barnstable County Human Rights Commission, Harwich Junior Theatre, radio station WOMR, private and public schools, churches, libraries, Hospice and Palliative Care of Cape Cod and other health organizations, cultural and community groups, and many others. The 2009 recipients will be announced at the auction.
Spring Fling is the GALE Fund’s largest annual fundraising event. Tickets are $100 per person ($75 for members) or $750 for reserved tables of 10. Sponsor and patron opportunities also are available. Reservations are required.
