Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women announces 100 Unsung Heroines of 2009

Partan, nominated by State Rep. Timothy Madden to be recognized

BOSTON - The Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women (MCSW) proudly announces its 100 Unsung Heroines of 2009. These women come from cities and towns across the Commonwealth and each will be recognized for their outstanding contributions to their organizations and communities in a ceremony on Wednesday, May 13, 2009 from 1-4 p.m., at the State House in Boston.

"Our Unsung Heroines are women who don't make the news, but make a difference." Said Kira Dunn, MCSW Executive Director.

The MCSW will recognize Carolyn Partan as the 2009 Heroine for Falmouth, nominated by State Representative Timothy Madden. These Heroines were carefully selected from nearly 400 nominations.

"Through Carolyn Partan's tireless efforts both the Falmouth Historical Society and the Falmouth Artist Guild has been revitalized and improved over the past decade. She was the catalyst behind the creation of an educational program at the Historical Society. Her husband Ralph was the previous director at the Artist's Guild, and after his death four years ago, she became directly involved with the project he had dreamed about completing. Carolyn became the driving force behind breaking ground for a brand new facility. Through her fundraising efforts, she raised millions of dollars through private contributions and grants" said Rep. Madden.
