Estey Frances (Look) Teller died peacefully on March 23, 2016 at her home in Edgartown after an extended illness. She was 83 years old.
Estey Look was born in Oak Bluffs on October 22nd, 1932, with her ancestry traceable back to some of the earliest island residents. She was the fourth of six children (and the third daughter) born to C. Stetson and Agatha (Worden) Look of Edgartown. Estey grew up in Edgartown, attending island schools and building lifelong relationships with many, including her future husband and best friend, Thomas A. “Tommy” Teller. In 1955 she married Tommy, a high school classmate and later the long-time Clerk Magistrate of the Dukes Country District Court. During her adult life, Estey held various jobs in addition to serving as a homemaker for her family at their home on Mullen Way in Edgartown. It was there she raised her daughters Ann Marie and Stephanie (and later, helping to do the same for her grandchildren), maintained a household, worked in her lush and lovingly-maintained gardens, and served as co-captain of the Ol’ Salt. She and her husband Tommy spent many a summer and fall together fishing the waters in and around the Vineyard aboard Ol’ Salt, and were long-time participants in the annual Striped Bass and Bluefish Derby when in 2010, at age 78, Estey took first place for the largest Bluefish caught in the tournament. But more than anything else Estey loved spending time with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each of whom will forever remain the apples of her eye.
Estey is survived by her beloved husband Tommy, daughter Stephanie of Pocasset, grandchildren Sara Estey Moses (Doug) of Shelburne Vermont, Samuel Thomas Bell of Edgartown, great-grandchildren Eloise and Hank Moses, sister Leslie “Tarzie” (Look) Carroll (Bill), brother Peter W. Look (Phyllis), as well as several dozen nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives in-law, and dear friends both on and off Martha’s Vineyard.
She is predeceased by daughter Delia Joy and son Thomas Arthur Jr., daughter Ann Marie, and siblings Barbara (Look) Lee, Christopher S. “Huck” Look, and Nancy (Look) McCormack.
A visitation will be held on Monday, March 28, 10:00 am followed by an 11:00 am funeral service in the Chapman, Cole, and Gleason Funeral Home, Edgartown-Vineyard Haven Road, Oak Bluffs, with interment to follow at the New Westside Cemetery.
