Karl W. Aittaniemi Jr., 77, of West Barnstable, passed away peacefully at Cape Cod Hospital surrounded by his loving family on April 21, 2016. He was the beloved husband of Doris “Dottie” Aittaniemi and the son of the late Karl Sr. and Hazel Aittaniemi. Karl graduated from Barnstable High School. He was commissioned and served as an officer in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict. Karl worked as an airline pilot at American Airlines for 32 years until his retirement. He was an avid reader, loved fishing and enjoyed watching auto racing. Most of all he loved spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be dearly missed by all who loved him.
In addition to his wife Dottie of 50 years, Karl is survived by 3 children, Trey Aittaniemi and wife Sandi of Palatine, IL, Bethany Aittaniemi of Palatine, IL, Mark Aittaniemi and wife Molly of Edmond, OK, 4 grandchildren Amanda, Kyle, Hazel, Olive, and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother Alan Aittaniemi and sister in-law Barbara Aittaniemi. Karl’s family extends a special thanks to the staff of Harbor Point at Centerville and Assisted Living Facility and Beacon Hospice for the kind and loving care they provided at such a difficult time.
A visitation will be held at the John Lawrence Funeral Home 3778 Falmouth Rd. (Rte 28) Marstons Mills on Wednesday April 27, 2016 from 2:00pm to 5:00pm. A funeral service will follow in the John Lawrence Funeral Home at 5:00pm. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in memory of Karl to the American Cancer Society 30 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01701 or to the Hope Dementia and Alzheimer’s Association of Cape Cod 765 Attucks Lane Hyannis, MA 02601.
